The following success story was submitted by Kennebec Valley Community Action Program’s (KVCAP’s) Kennebec Community Investors Initiative, a UWKV partner program.
The Kennebec Community Investors initiative recently supported a new Mainer family residing in Augusta. The family, which includes a married couple and their six children—ranging from 1-year-old twins to a 17-year-old—was brought to our attention by their Maine Families Home Visitor, who has been assisting them for several months.
While working with the family, the Home Visitor identified a critical need: the parents had no safe space to feed their 1-year-old twins. Despite the mother’s efforts to secure highchairs through Maine Needs, local marketplace boards, and Fresh Starts, she was unable to find a solution. Adding to the challenge, a significant language barrier made communication more complex.
Determined to help, the Home Visitor submitted a Community Investors application on the family’s behalf. The application was approved, and the family received two brand-new highchairs that convert into booster seats as the twins grow.
This support has been transformative for the family. As a stay-at-home parent, the mother now has a safe and secure place for her twins during mealtimes. With this worry resolved, she can attend to other tasks nearby with peace of mind, knowing her children are safe.
