Planned Giving

Leave a lasting legacy in Kennebec County.

The United Way of Kennebec Valley (UWKV) Legacy Society is comprised of individuals who demonstrate extraordinary forethought and generosity to ensure the ongoing health and well-being of people in our communities.

Through outright gifts to the United Way endowment, or through deferred gift commitments to UWKV or its endowment, Legacy Society members plant seeds of kindness that will improve lives for generations to come. In addition, planned gifts can provide significant financial and tax benefits for you and your family.

A bequest is one of the easiest gifts to make. With the help of an attorney, you can include language in your will or trust specifying a gift to be made to UWKV as part of your estate plan, or you can make a bequest using a beneficiary designation form.

IRA Charitable Rollover

An IRA rollover allows people 70 ½ years of age and older to reduce their taxable income by making a gift directly from their IRA. This allows taxpayers to donate up to $100,000 from their IRAs each year without having to treat the withdrawals as taxable income.

Stocks & Bonds

Gifts of appreciated stock may provide you with significant tax benefits, including an income tax deduction for the fair market value of stock, and the elimination of capital gains taxes due if the stock were sold instead.

Retirement Assets

A gift of your retirement assets, such as a gift from your IRA, 401(k), 401(b), pension or other tax-deferred plan, is an excellent way to make a lasting impact in Kennebec County.

Charitable Gift Annuity

Make a gift of cash or other assets to our organization in exchange for fixed income (with rates based on your age) for the rest of your life. There are a variety of different ways to accomplish this — please contact us for more information.

Gift of Life Insurance

A gift of your fully paid life insurance policy is a wonderful way to leave a legacy. If your life insurance policy is no longer needed or will no longer benefit your heirs, consider making a gift to help further UWKV’s long-term mission.

Real Estate

A gift of your real estate property (such as your home, vacation property, vacant land or commercial property) can make a great gift. If you own appreciated real estate, you can avoid paying capital gains tax by making a gift to UWKV.

A gift of cash to UWKV’s endowment fund is a simple and easy way for you to leave your legacy. You may be eligible to receive a charitable tax deduction that will provide you with savings on this year’s tax return.
