Every year, United Way of Kennebec Valley presents awards to the top-performing fundraisers in the area. In late 2017, United Way revamped its award structure to better align with the agency's goals. Award winners are selected by our Campaign Chairs and Campaign Committee each year and presented at our Campaign Celebration.
2017 Campaign Award Winners
Large business partner of the year
MaineGeneral Health’s multifaceted support of United Way has been instrumental to the campaign’s success. Through the efforts of a creative and enthusiastic system-wide fundraising team, MaineGeneral increased staff giving to UWKV by 55 percent. Among Maine hospitals, MaineGeneral stands out for its philanthropic spirit. This award is given to a company with 35+ employees that has demonstrated outstanding United Way leadership.
SMALL BUSINESS PARTNER OF THE YEAR
Oakes & Parkhurst Glass
O&P Glass led an impressive campaign, increasing staff giving by 65 percent and encouraging new donations. The business also partnered with United Way to host a leadership appreciation event. This award is given to a company with up to 34 employees that has demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment to United Way’s mission.
CHAIRPERSON'S recognition award
Maine State Employees Combined Charitable Appeal (MSECCA) Campaign
Campaign Chairs Chuck and Maria Hays present this award to MSECCA for its outstanding contributions to the community through United Way. In particular, campaign leaders broadened campaign efforts in innovative ways to achieve a 35 percent increase in giving across the State of Maine. This award is given annually to an entity that truly exemplifies what it means to LIVE UNITED.
Employee Campaign Managers of the Year
Cory Lathrop & Andrew O'Hearn, Charlie's Family of Dealerships
Cory and Andrew consistently lead an impressive fundraising effort at Charlie’s Family of Dealerships, United Way’s largest workplace campaign. Employee Campaign Managers are the heroes and driving force behind the success of any campaign, and the enthusiasm and dedication of Cory and Andrew enables Charlie’s campaign to flourish.

Gagnon Dental partnered with United Way to host its first Employee Giving Campaign this year, putting forth a standout effort and achieving strong results. In addition, Gagnon Dental is a founding member of United Way’s 365 Small Business Circle, which showcases the collective giving power of locally owned companies. United Way’s success is a direct result of business collaboration, and new partnerships are essential to expanding our impact.
NORM TEMPLE COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER AWARD
NRF Distrubutors' Fresh Starts Initiative
This award is presented each year to an individual or group in recognition of exceptional community service. This year, United Way honors NRF’s Fresh Start initiative, which collects, stores and distributes gently used household items to local people who are transitioning to new and stable housing situations. The award is named for Norm Temple, an outstanding community leader and volunteer with the United Way and other local organizations.
