The Maine State Employees Combined Charitable Appeal (MSECCA), led by the Maine Department of Transportation, increased its statewide donations to nonprofit organizations by 35 percent last year. State employees directed $97,267 to the United Way of Kennebec Valley (UWKV) alone, making MSECCA one of United Way’s 12 Cornerstone Partners.

Cornerstone businesses and agencies collectively make up more than 53 percent of UWKV’s annual campaign, which totaled $1.67 million in 2017. This year, Transportation Commissioner David Bernhardt, his staff and volunteer coordinators from across the state hosted this effort, broadening efforts in innovative ways with strong support from Governor Paul LePage.
