Partner Program Spotlight: Family Violence Project
The Family Violence Project (FVP) is a United Way of Kennebec Valley partner program. Not only does your annual contribution help FVP educate and prevent domestic abuse in our community, it also provides support for people experiencing abuse. Please remember that this pandemic affects everyone differently and this image shows what survivors may be experiencing right now in our community.
If you or a loved one are experiencing abuse, advocates are available 24/7 on FVP helpline at (877) 890-7788. Services are free and confidential.
This account from FVP, highlights some of the other great work this organization does.
"At the end of every junior and high school grade level training, the educator has the students put our free confidential 24/7 helpline number in their phone and teaches them how to go about using the helpline. Informational brochures are also given out for students to keep. One student later shared of an event where a parent went out with a partner they were dating and had been assaulted, the parent returned home in distress and panicked, but the child assured the parent that they knew exactly what to do. The parent was then able to work with us to be admitted into shelter and gain help to receive a Protection from Abuse Order."
