United Way breaks records, to celebrate campaign season on Jan. 31
AUGUSTA - United Way of Kennebec Valley (UWKV) will announce its campaign fundraising total--the largest amount ever raised for United Way partner programs--at the agency's annual Campaign Celebration, held on Wednesday, Jan. 31 at MaineGeneral Medical Center from 5-7 p.m. More than 150 local businesses, nonprofit agencies, board members and other community partners are expected to attend to honor UWKV's success in raising funds to support 50 partner programs this year.
This free event will include recognition of six businesses that have been instrumental to this campaign cycle, with Campaign Chairs Chuck and Maria Hays presenting awards to Charlie's Family of Dealerships, Gagnon Dental, MaineGeneral Health, the Maine State Employees Combined Charitable Appeal campaign, NRF Distributors and Oakes & Parkhurst Glass. Twenty-eight businesses also met or exceeded the Hays family's challenge to increase donations by 5 percent, largely contributing to the campaign's record-breaking success.
During the program, representatives from NRF Distributors will share information about the business' new Fresh Start initiative, which collects, stores and distributes gently used household items to people transitioning to stable housing situations. Maria Hays, professor at the University of Maine at Augusta, will close the event by addressing the crowd as United Way's 2018 board chair.
Attendees are encouraged to bring personal care items, which will be collected by United Way's Emerging Leaders Society and donated to Bridging the Gap for people in need. Music will be performed by United Way supporters Mark Johnston and Birdie Katz.
