United Way of Kennebec Valley kicks off 2024 Fall Day of Caring events on September 27

AUGUSTA, ME – United Way of Kennebec Valley (UWKV) is thrilled to announce the start of its 24th Fall Day of Caring events, beginning on September 27, 2024. This season will see seven schools from across Kennebec Valley joining in community service projects — following a successful spring season that saw participation from 18 schools. Altogether, more than 8,800 students and faculty will volunteer this year, demonstrating the community’s commitment to coming together for the common good.

Participating schools and organizations for the fall calendar include:

  • St. Michael School (September 27)
  • Monmouth Academy (September 27)
  • Waterville Senior High School (October 18)
  • Hall-Dale Elementary, Middle, and High Schools (October 23)
  • Monmouth Memorial (November 1)

Since 2022, the Day of Caring program has seen a significant increase in involvement, with a 47.1% rise in school participation and a 68.6% increase in student and faculty engagement. This growth highlights the expanding commitment of the Kennebec Valley community to support local initiatives and foster a culture of volunteerism.

“We’re absolutely delighted to be reaching more children and youth than ever before,” said Katelyn Pushard, director of community impact at UWKV. “With the support of our sponsors and partnership with schools, students are receiving the chance to learn more about the needs around them, understand the different ways to help, and experience the fulfillment of being part of the solution.”

Started in 2000 with two founding sponsors, Team EJP and G&E Roofing Company, the Day of Caring is more than a volunteer event; it is a community-wide effort that brings together students, local businesses, and the United Way to create positive change.

UWKV extends its gratitude to its Founding Sponsors, Team EJP and G&E Roofing Company; Presenting Sponsor, Pine State Trading Company; Diamond Sponsor, Kennebec Savings Bank; Platinum Sponsors, Central Maine Power, Gagnon Dental, KV Federal Credit Union, Lajoie Brothers, MaineGeneral, and NRF Distributors; Gold Sponsors, Maine Savings Federal Credit Union, O’Connor Auto Park, and Trademark Federal Credit Union; and Silver Sponsors, Gardiner Federal Credit Union, One River CPAs, Sprague & Curtis Real Estate, and Woodlands Senior Living.

United Way of Kennebec Valley’s mission is to unite people and resources to improve lives in our community. Through the Day of Caring, UWKV continues to cultivate a spirit of community and volunteerism, making a meaningful impact on the lives of many.
